Gogglebox star George Gilbey seen smiling in last photo days before death

Gogglebox star George Gilbey was seen smiling in a sweet selfie just five days before his death. He was reported to have died today "suddenly" after a "workplace accident".

In the snap that the Channel 4 star posted on social media, George looked directly at the camera as he smiled while wearing a black tracksuit and hoodie.

Along with a picture of a gym card, he captioned the post: "Done. Full membership." Essex Police confirmed today: "We received a report of an incident at Campfield Road in Shoebury at around 10am this morning (27 March), during which a man who was working at height had fallen and sustained an injury.

"The ambulance service including air ambulance were in attendance. Sadly, the man died at the scene. We will continue liaising with partners including the Heath and Safety Executive. A cordon remains in place at the scene."

A spokesperson for Gogglebox paid tribute to George in a statement that read: "George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and step-dad Pete. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda and George's family and friends at this very sad time. The family have asked for privacy."

Tributes have been pouring in on social media for the reality star as one person said on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Saddened to hear of the passing of former Gogglebox star and Celebrity Big Brother housemate, George Gilbey. Our thoughts are with his family and friends."

Somebody else said: "@georgegilbey Such sad news rest in peace George," while another X user added: "My thoughts are with everyone @C4Gogglebox and also to George's family as well."

George's Celebrity Big Brother co-star Ricci Guarnaccio penned: "Breaks my heart but George Gilbey you are well and truly going to be missed, my friend. Always lit up the room, cared for others, and the memories we made I’ll cherish forever brother. From CBB to speaking to you last week, I’m going to hugely miss you my boy. Love you GG." (sic)

George was best known for starring on Gogglebox with his mum Linda and stepdad Pete McGarry.
