Kathy Kirby: Sixties golden girl remembered in new musical
THE rise and fall of Sixties’ golden girl Kathy Kirby is being told in a musical.
Maggie Lynne stars as Kathy Kirby White Bear Theatre
Actress Maggie Lynne, 22, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the star, will sing her best known song, Secret Love, and nine other numbers in the show Kathy Kirby: Icon at the White Bear Theatre in Kennington, south London, this month.
Her vulnerability and naivety shaped Kathy as a person but she had a real spark about her
Maggie said last night: “Her vulnerability and naivety shaped Kathy as a person but she had a real spark about her.
“She transformed on stage, where she felt happiest. Often it would take her hours to come back to reality. It is important to do her justice. She was such an icon.”
Royal Shakespeare Company actress Tina Jones plays an older Kathy in the show.
Writer David Donegan said: “In Maggie and Tina we were lucky to find two women who can give credit to the woman rightly known as the golden girl of pop.”
Kathy, who became a recluse in later years, died in 2011 after a short illness, aged 72.
The show is on from October 20 to November 8.
