Is the Lib Dems' tax-the-rich plan fair?

THE LIBERAL Democrats have unveiled plans to force owners of homes worth over £1million to pay a new tax that would subsidise the poor.

Plans to make up to four million low income families exempt from paying tax were heralded by party leader Nick Clegg at the Liberal Democrat party conference.

Mr Clegg said he wanted to “radically lower” the tax burden for those on low and middle incomes.

The levy would be an annual 0.5 per cent charge on the value of homes above the £1million mark - meaning a homeowner with a property worth £1.5million would pay a tax of £2,500 on the £500,000.

The move - which the Lib Dems say would affect around 250,000 property owners and raise £17billion per year - would be a key policy in their manifesto for the next general election.

PERHAPS YOU FEEL THE MOVE WOULD RE-BALANCE THE RICH-POOR DIVIDE... OR MAYBE YOU THINK TAXING THE RICH IS UNFAIR
