PlayStation fans waiting for Sony to announce a new date for the delayed reveal event have been given some great news.

The official PS5 reveal event has been rescheduled to take place this week, bringing fresh next-gen news.

Sony decided to delay the event due to the civil unrest surrounding the death of George Floyd.

Since moving the event from June 4, Sony has confirmed that its new plans include the big announcement happening this week, Thursday, June 11.

A new message from Sony confirms that the big PS5 reveal event will be happening at around 9pm GMT, making it easy for gamers in the UK to tune in.

A slightly more awkward time of 1pm PT has been confirmed for PlayStation fans in the United States.

The new updated message from Sony adds: “Hi all – thanks for being patient and understanding while we rescheduled this PS5 event for Thursday, June 11 at 1pm Pacific Time / 9pm BST.

“We needed to step aside so key voices could be heard during this historic and important time.

“Now that the event is confirmed for June 11, I wanted to add that this pre-taped program will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second.

“This eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home. The games you’ll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you’d expect.

“It’s also best if you watch while wearing headphones, if you can — there’s some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers.”

The showcase will run for just over an hour, and is rumoured to feature new releases such as Demon's Souls Remastered, Horizon Zero Dawn 2 and a sequel to Marvel's Spider-Man.

Then there are confirmed games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Godfall and Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which could also be shown.

PS5: Mark Cerny explaines 'backwards compatibility' of console

"We’ve shared technical specifications and shown you the new DualSense wireless controller. But what is a launch without games?" reads a recent Sony post.

"That’s why I’m excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday.

"The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.

"This digital showcase will run for a bit more than an hour and, for the first time, we will all be together virtually experiencing the excitement together.

"A lack of physical events has given us an amazing opportunity to think differently and bring you on this journey with us, and hopefully, closer than ever before. This is part of our series of PS5 updates and, rest assured, after next week’s showcase, we will still have much to share with you."

There has also been speculation that the new Call of Duty game will also be featured during the big PS5 reveal event.
