THRIFT'S IN VOGUE, JADE

Parfitt had her first TV role

Wednesday December 3,2008

Top model Jade Parfitt is forging ahead with a new career – as a TV presenter. But it seems she won’t make her fortune that way as she took an, ahem, 100 per cent pay cut to become a presenter for Vogue.com.

“They sent me to New York to cover the Metropolitan Ball. It’s like the fashion Oscars, just the biggest event,” six-footer Jade told us at the Distill magazine launch at The Shop at Bluebird in London. “But they said as I was new, they wouldn’t pay me a bean.”

Still, it seems the rookie reporter did well.

“The first person I had to interview was Julia Roberts,” she recalled. “And the next was George Clooney. After that, it could only get easier. The party was themed on superheroes. Jennifer Lopez was Wonder Woman. I asked them who their favourite superheroes were. Jonathan Rhys Meyers said Dangermouse!”

Interrogation, admits the 30-year-old, is perhaps not her forte. “I’m actually quite shy. It doesn’t come naturally to me, asking intrusive questions. I was just put there by Vogue, on the red carpet, just winging it, out in the cold.

“David and Victoria Beckham turned up – I’m a big Manchester United fan so I shouted for David. I was probably the only person at the awards there, shouting for him.”

Very good but do make sure you get paid next time, Jade!
