The SIMBA Hybrid Ultra: 60-Second Review

SIMBA Hybrid Ultra uses incredible sleep science and technology to position itself as one of the best, high-quality mattresses that you can get delivered straight to your bed.

This comfortable mattress has earned itself five stars for sleep quality from our independent reviewers and for good reason. Our favourite thing about the mattress is the ability to mould to your body, helping to eliminate the risk of any aches or pains.

Meanwhile, its temperature regulation is fantastic, especially for those who find they can get hot at night. And the fact it comes with a free mattress protector and removable, washable top layer, means that your mattress will stand the test of time,

SIMBA uses 100 percent recycled materials inside the Hybrid Ultra, so upgrading to a new mattress will be kinder to the planet than picking some other brands. British brand SIMBA also pledges to use “carbon neutral” couriers for its deliveries, which is a nice touch.

Our only nitpick with the Hybrid Ultra is that its size can be quite overwhelming, and its weight means that it won't be easy to move from room to room or if you need to move house.

The price tag isn't the most affordable, but if you bear in mind how much use the standard mattress gets, it's well worth investing in your sleep and giving the SIMBA Hybrid Ultra a go. Thanks to the 200-day trial period, you can put it to the test to decide if it's worth the investment.

SIMBA Hybrid Ultra review

SIMBA has become a popular mattress delivery choice in the UK over the last few years, having won over 60 industry awards. And it offers a diverse range of products, not solely restricted to mattresses. Shoppers can choose from beds and bases, pillows and even duvets.

But when it comes to its mattress offering alone, SIMBA really does have something for everyone. SIMBA has all manner of mattress sizes to choose from, including foam, organic and its "most popular" hybrid.

Enter, SIMBA's newest addition to the Hybrid family - the Hybrid Ultra mattress. Born from what the mattress brand describes as "exhaustive lab experiments and a tireless search for the finest materials". The mattress itself is comprised of 13 layers and 8,500 springs and promises customers a "quality and restorative sleep".

However, this high-quality mattress comes with a hefty price tag, retailing at £3,999 for a King (though right now you can get 40 percent off and save £1,600 as part of Simab's autumn event).

But before you even order your mattress, one of our favourite things about shopping for a mattress from SIMBA is that it feels like a relatively risk-free experience (especially given the large price tag attached to some of its mattresses) thanks to the generous trial period.

When your new mattress arrives, you'll have 200 nights to thoroughly test the SIMBA design, and it's advisable to start using it as soon as possible, as the trial starts from the day you receive it. And this doesn't mean leaving tags and plastic wrapping on, SIMBA wants you to use the mattress like it's your own.

At the end of the 199th night on the SIMBA mattress, you'll be able to contact the brand for a refund if there's anything that isn't working for you. The service can even arrange collection too.

Delivery and Set-Up

The SIMBA Hybrid Ultra comes with an extra special VIP delivery to have the mattress not only delivered to your door, but also up the stairs and straight onto your bed frame by a team of two. And, depending on where you live in the UK, the helpful delivery team can even take away your old mattress to be recycled as part of the VIP package.

Unlike some other mattresses on offer from the brand, the mattress does not come vacuum packed or rolled up, but this is perhaps due to just how big it is. However, it does come encased in two protective plastic layers, with cardboard at the corners while in transit. Luckily, the delivery team will remove all of this for you when they move the mattress to your bed.

Admittedly, on first impressions we were quite taken aback by the thickness of the mattress, taking into account that we required a King mattress. But, if you consider the 13 layers that make up this mammoth piece of bedtime tech.

It's worth noting that the mattress is very heavy, so if you plan on taking on the challenge of unpacking it yourself, or heaven forbid you try to move out with it, you'll need a team to support you - this isn't a one-person job.

Sleep Quality

Given SIMBA's 200-day guarantee, they are certainly confident in their product, and after sleeping on the SIMBA Hybrid Ultra mattress for over a week now, we can understand why.

Before the SIMBA Hybrid Ultra was delivered into our lives, we were sleeping, pretty uncomfortably, on an old pocket sprung mattress.

Our main concerns, other than its age, was that it could lead to an incredibly clammy night's sleep and didn't offer the best support.

In contrast to that mattress, the Hybrid Ultra's in-depth design has already solved most of the problems we were faced with. The mattress is firm enough to offer excellent ergonomic support, enough for my back to be thankful within just a few days - something that the brand accredits to PureLift Ergonomic Support technology.

You may be surprised to find out that PureLift is the fusion of nationally elastic latex with coconut fibres, giving plenty of resistance while still allowing for enough bounce.

SIMBA explain that this allows the mattress to adapt to your individual body shape while you sleep. It also allows for anti-motion transfer, meaning no more rolling into my partner in the night and disturbing his slumber.

The other element, of course, is likely the impressive 13 layers - though you may be wondering what exactly that means. From just looking at the mattress alone, the 13 layers are definitely noticeable.

So much so that we had to lower our bed frame down one rung, so that we didn't end up with a 'Princess and the Pea' situation. This may be worth bearing in mind if you already have quite a high bed frame that doesn't allow for adjustments.

SIMBA matress layers

The SIMBA Hybrid Ultra is comprised of 13 specially designed layers (Image: SIMBA)

About those 13 layers: Generally, it's a mix of foam and spring sections, hence the hybrid name, but with some added technology to aid support and temperature control. If you're upgrading from a traditional coiled spring mattress, the SIMBA Hybrid Ultra will likely feel pretty firm in comparison, but that's not to say there is no bounce.

The layers start with a soft, knitted sleep surface which really is as soft as Simba claims. What I love about this is that the cover zips off meaning you can easily wash it.

The second layer is the all-natural CoolFusion layer, the section which is responsible for helping with temperature control. Which is actually one of the biggest changes we noticed. With a partner who runs rather hot while sleeping, I was interested to see just how well it worked. We both were pleasantly surprised by how much better he is sleeping at night due to this.

Two layers of SIMBATEX foam add some extra elasticity and cushioning, as well as allowing for more airflow. Then, a double layer of patented micro-springs is in place to mirror the shape of your body and offer support to areas that dig into the mattress, like shoulders and hips.

Towards the bottom of the mattress are 1,000 pocketed, tempered steel barrel springs, which further help support the body while sleeping.

Having struggled with back and shoulder pain off and on over the last couple of years, the mattress has certainly made a difference - and there have been far fewer mornings waking up with achy joints.

We found the Hybrid Ultra kept our body well supported throughout the night, and there is no unwanted sag in the middle that can leave you with a bad back come sunrise.

If you have transitioned from a non-hybrid mattress, it's worth bearing in mind that it can take up to 72 hours for your Simba mattress to fully settle, but in our experience, we felt a notably positive difference from day one.

Price and Availability

Now, it's undeniable that the SIMBA Hybrid Ultra comes with a whopping price tag, and whether it's worth the investment is really down to your budget.

In our opinion, the mattress is fantastic, and really does what it says on the tin, with an extra few perks thrown in. Every SIMBA Hybrid Ultra mattress comes with a free mattress protector, plus the special VIP delivery service and the option to have your old mattress taken away and recycled.

But the good news is that . Right now (November 2023) you can get up to 55 percent off.

If you're looking for the same King mattress we tried, you can get 40 percent off and save £1,600 as part of SIMBA's autumn event. That means spending £2,399.40 as opposed to £3,999.

And there's the option to pay in instalments from £76.87 a month.

SIMBA Hybrid Ultra Final Verdict

For a limited time, SIMBA is offering customers up to 40% off its Hyrbid Ultra mattress and a free mattress protector. Customers can also enjoy VIP delivery straight to your bedroom, and even a recycling service for your old mattress.

The SIMBA Hybrid Ultra genuinely isn't your average mattress, and the research and science that has gone into creating the unique layers certainly pays off. After putting the mattress to the test, we experienced improved sleep quality and noticeably felt positive effects compared with our old mattress.

The temperature control layers are perfect for keeping hot sleepers cool, while making sure you are never too cold either.

However, the height of the mattress may be off-putting to those with smaller bed frames, and there's also that hefty price tag if you don't manage to catch a deal or sale. If you are thinking of investing in the mattress, it's well worth keeping an eye on SIMBA's website for any of its best deals or seasonal offers.

The SIMBA Hybrid Ultra genuinely isn't your average mattress, and the research and science that has gone into creating the unique layers certainly pays of

In summary, the SIMBA Hybrid Ultra is a fantastic option if you're looking to invest in your sleep. Remember, your mattress is one of the furniture items you use the most, so it's well worth splashing out on.

It offers supreme comfort and clever temperature regulation tech that works well year-round and has been a huge help to us as the seasons have transitioned.

But you don't need to take our word for it. Thanks to SIMBA's 200-night trial period, you can take the mattress home and put it to the test yourself.
