Give new life to towels that are ‘scratchy’ and ‘stiff’ with two second tip to soften them

A stiff towel that doesn't feel good on the body can be a nuisance - luckily, there's a way to combat the problem.

TikTok user shares cleaning hack to keep towels soft

Even if you buy high-end towels, you may notice that they are not as fluffy and comfortable as they once were over time.

Faced with this problem, an individual took to advice platform Reddit to figure out how to spring some life back into their towels.

They wrote: “We always buy high quality, pure cotton towels but after a few washes they seem to always end up scratchy and stiff.

“We wash them on a low water temp (30-40 degrees Celsius) or cold water in line with the label and then hang dry on the clothesline. Any suggestions for keeping them soft or something we’re doing wrong?”

Multiple people suggested that the solution to ultra-soft towels was simply throwing the towel in the dryer to dry instead of letting them hang dry on a clothesline.

And with a bit of an explanation, someone else emphasized that advice.

They wrote: “Not really sure where I learned this, or even if it's completely accurate, but here goes.

“Washing flattens the fibers of the towel. To refluff them, try giving them a few minutes in the dryer (if you have one) before hanging them to dry.

“Or, if you don't need to save money on your energy bill, just dry them completely in the dryer.

“If you don't have a dryer, which would explain why you hang dry them to begin with, once they're dry try scrunching them into a ball and rubbing the different parts of the towel together.

“That should eliminate some of the stiffness, at least.”
