Vogue editor Anna Wintour has given an insight into her royal "dream couple" to attend the Met Gala, but it is not and .

Despite claiming that the Duchess of Sussex would be a "dream guest" at the event, which she is a co-chair of, the fashion legend has said she wants Meghan to attend with Princess Kate.

Back in 2019 she told Today: "I would love to have the Duchess of Sussex and the Duchess of Cambridge [Kate’s then-title prior to becoming the Princess of Wales] together. That would be my dream couple."

Ms Wintour did not appear to have any interest in Prince William or Prince Harry accompanying them, as she said: "They could leave their husbands at home. It’s the two of them I want."

There have been rumours of the Sussexes attending the Met Gala for years, but once again they were not present in New York last night for the biggest event of the fashion calendar.

The Vogue editor's views may have changed since then of course, as the year after she gave the interview the Sussexes stepped down as working members of the Royal Family.

Meghan and Kate have never enjoyed a close relationship, with Kate supposedly making Meghan cry over a row over a bridesmaid's dress for her and Harry's wedding in 2018.

It was initially reported that it was Kate who had shed tears, however the Princess was given a reprieve in Harry's memoir Spare as he wrote: "Kate got things rolling straightaway by acknowledging that these stories in the papers about Meg making her cry were totally false."

The Princess later sent flowers to Meghan to apologise, but it seems her and Prince William are not keen to be reunited with the Sussexes anytime soon.

During her and Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey back in March 2021 the Duchess pleaded with her fans not to pit her against her sister-in-law.

She told the presenter: "I think so much of what I have seen play out is this idea of polarity, where if you love me, you don't have to hate her. And if you love her, you don't need to hate me."

The Duke of Sussex will soon be back on UK soil for a service commemorating ten years of the Invictus Games at St Paul's Cathedral, to be held on May 8.

But Meghan will not be joining him, as her biographer Omid Scobie previously said she has no desire to set foot in England ever again.

Last time Meghan was with Harry at St Paul's for the Platinum Jubilee Service of Thanksgiving in June 2022 they received both cheers and boos from the crowd.
