Boy, 14, stabbed to death in Manchester named and pictured for first time
The teenage victim was stabbed during an altercation in the Manchester neighbourhood of Harpurhey on Friday night.
A 14-year-old boy at the centre of a murder investigation has been named for the first time as tributes continue to pour in.
Nathanial Shani was stabbed in Harpurhey in Manchester on Friday, September 15, with floral tributes being left at the scene off Tavistock Square.
Another 14-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being questioned by detectives this afternoon, September 16.
The tight-knit community has been devastated by the loss, with a GoFundMe page being set up in order to provide help for his family.
Friends and loved ones have posted tributes on TikTok and Facebook, with one calling Nathaniel "the funniest person in the world".
Another posted: "Always in our hearts", while one friend added: "He didn't deserve this, we'll miss him a lot."
Harpurhey Neighbourhood Project said in a statement: "As a community, we are in mourning after hearing of a the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy yesterday evening. We offer our condolences to the family and friends, and our support in whatever way we can.
"The team is thinking and talking about ways in which we can support the young people immediately to process their grief and anger at this understandably emotional time."
Police and paramedics were called to Tavistock Square at around 6pm on Friday evening and worked on Nathaniel at the scene before he was rushed to hospital.
It was confirmed by Greater Manchester Police in the early hours of Saturday morning that Nathaniel had died and his family were informed.
A section 60 stop and search order is now in place following the tragedy, which will run until 8.26pm this Saturday evening.
Detective Superintendent Phil Key said: "Firstly I would like to share my deepest condolences with the family at this unbelievably difficult time. Our Family Liaison Officers are currently working with them and we will continue to support the family throughout this extremely troubling period.
"A Section 60 authority has been put in place which will run for 24 hours and finish at 8.26pm this evening, we have taken this course of action to keep the public who live and work within the vicinity of the incident safe. We understand the use of a Section 60 can cause concern to local residents; however, we use these powers only when proportionate and necessary.
"By enforcing the Section 60 in the area, we will work to minimise any violent behaviour and prevent any further serious incidents going forward as our main priority is to keep the public safe."
