Toyota in Brazil to recall Corollas
The Brazilian subsidiary of car giant Toyota has agreed to recall an unspecified number of Corollas due to the risk of sudden acceleration, the Justice Ministry said.
The ministry said in a statement posted on its website that Toyota do Brasil would recall all the vehicles made since April 2008.
The statement did not mention any numbers but the O Globo newspaper said that nearly 55,000 Corollas were sold in 2009.
The statement said the company would remedy the case of loose floor mats which Toyota acknowledges could interfere with the accelerator pedal and cause sudden acceleration.
Earlier this week, Minas Gerais state suspended the sale of Corollas because of sudden acceleration problems in nine vehicles.
Toyota was not available for comment.
