EXPRESS COMMENT

QUEEN IS RIGHT TO PASS THE CROWN TO PATIENT CHARLES

MONARCH: The queen has served us well but the workload is punishing

Sunday November 16,2008

WE wholeheartedly endorse the decision of the Queen to pass the crown to Prince Charles in five years’ time.

She has been an outstanding monarch and her intention to stand aside for her son in no way diminishes the enormous respect she has earned.

By the time Charles accedes to the throne the Queen will have reigned for 61 years. She will be 87 and in the best of health we hope, but ready to take things easy and enjoy time with her family.

Queen Elizabeth has served Britain well but the workload is punishing. Charles will be 65 and ready for the challenges that being head of state and head of the Commonwealth will bring.

If the monarchy is to continue to play an important role in Britain’s constitutional arrangements it must move with the times.

To leave the timing of the accession in the hands of nature would be bad for Britain and the Royal Family.

The Queen, we hope, will live for many more years. Her decision to pass on the crown to Charles will be welcomed in Britain and admired around the world.

IT WOULD BE THE WRONG THING TO DO

19.11.08, 11:26pm

With regards to your article I trust this is just a rumour. The Queen has often said that this is a job for life. Her son, is in no way a fit person to rule this country. He is constantly putting his foot in his mouth with convertraversial issues. His comments on the rainforests being just one of them.

His antics with Camilla before he was married to Diana and during his time with Diana shows what kind of person he is. He went into the marriage with Diana knowing that once he had produced the heir and the spare he was done.

If and only if the Queen wants to abdicate then it should in favour of William and no one else.

LONG LIVE THE QUEEN

17.11.08, 12:36pm

Prince Charles will inherit the throne with or without the Queens permission or ours. I don.t know where this story has come from but I do not believe the Queen will abdicate she has taken a solemn oath to be the Queen until she dies.

IF AS YOU SAY, IT IS WRONG ...

"To leave the timing of the accession in the hands of nature"

i.e. an acciden of death

why should is it right to leave the decision of who should be Britain' head of state to an accident of birth?

I say it is time for Britons to take responsibility onto our own hands
and elect of head of state on a a none person one vote basis.

that way Charles Windor can freely an activist for any political causes he espouses

CONSIDERING THE SUNDAY EXPRESS .............

16.11.08, 11:11pm

Considering the Sunday Express wholeheartedly endorses the Queen's decision to pass the crown to Charles in five years time can they please conduct a full investigation/poll into what the public wants and their feelings on the matter?

If the public had fully accepted Charles and his awful wife he would have been crowned King by now and I am fairly certain that the people not only of Britain but the whole of the commonwealth have not accepted Camilla at all, plus Charles is forever damaged by his affair with her while married to the lovely Diana who was in fact the true and real jewel in the crown. In fact it is the actions of Charles and Camilla who have done much to tarnish the crown not to mention the irrepairable damage to the monarchy which now no longer has the standing that it once did.

What puzzles me the most is why would our present Queen who has been one of the greatest monarchs ever want to hand over the crown to a son who she must know that isn't that popular and even more so knowing that his wife is despised by many? Every time we see Camilla in the media she looks an absolute mess regardless of what she is wearing, she has no flair or elegance whatsoever.

I certainly hope that the Queen has a re-think on this matter and considers what will be left for her grandsons William and Harry should Charles and Camilla take the throne as I am pretty certain that there will be more republicans that royalists should this ever happen.

WHERE ON EARTH DID THIS COME FROM??????,

16.11.08, 6:27pm

The only thing Charles will do for this country is set about the beginning of the end of the monarchy,

he is not fit to be king,

he lied before a nation, before God , before the world, and most of all to his young wife when he took his marriage vows,

he has lied ever since,

he blames everyone else for his wrong doings,

and to want to take his former mistress to the throne of England is nothing worse than disrespect for his country,

what kind of king will he be?

Charles wants to change our monarchy and not for the better.

he wants change for himself and only himself,

he is the most disrespectful , selfish person ever,

and i still cannot believe that our Queen would do this to us,
