PRESSURE: Cameron turns up the heat on local authorities

Friday July 3,2009

By Emily Fox

DAVID Cameron last night insisted that local councils would have to do “more for less.”

In his latest austerity warning, the Tory leader signalled that local authorities faced increasing pressure to ease the burden of council tax on families.

In a speech to the Local Government Association’s annual conference in Harrogate, he questioned Gordon Brown’s honesty about the need for spending cuts.

Mr Cameron said: “There’s no point pretending, as our Prime Minister does, that it’s just not there.

“We’ve got to look the public in the eye and have an honest conversation about the financial situation.”

He promised local councils greater freedom under a Conservative government, but warned that greater productivity was “a necessity in the age of austerity”.

“We must demonstrate that we can provide good services when funding is tight,” he said.

“I do not pretend that tough choices will not have to be made. But we must begin by fighting the outdated notion that having limited finances just means painful cuts to frontline services.”

All very well quoting something the UK public has been aware of for years, but like all of Call-me-Dave's proposals he is not very specific on what he is going to do about it. Possibly he is starting to feel the pinch since his allowance's have been curtailed? Also, what is his his pledge to the Palace of Wasteminster, is he planning to clip their wings too, or will it return to the normal, every MP for themself?
I just wish Cameron would keep his mouth shut until he has a solution to a problem rather than just quoting the problem and saying he will solve it!

AND WHY WOULD HE GIVE SPECIFIC DETAILS OF HIS PROPOSALS - SO THAT MCDUFFER AND HIS BUNCH OF BRAIN DEAD MUPPETS CAN STEAL THE TORYS POLICIES ?

EVERY POLICY MCDOOM HAS ANOUNCED RECENTLY HAS BEEN STOLEN STRAIGHT FROMTHE TORY MANIFESTO - LABOUR IS BEREFT OF ORIGINAL THOUGHT OR POLICY.

CAMERON IS STRIKING EXACTLY THE RIGHT BALANCE - SAY WHAT WILL BE TACKLED - BUT DONT LET LABOUR STEAL HIS IDEAS OF HOW TO DO IT.

READING BETWEEN THE LINES..

I assume 'more for less' is:

1. Streamlining upper 'management' and related pay.

2. Cutting out those diverse job positions we have consistently seen advertised. ('jobs worth' jobs).

NEW TORY LEADER NEEDED

03.07.09, 7:45am

David Cameron is the worst Tory leader ever. His comments about Section 28 and his enthusiasm for the promotion of homosexuality to schoolchildren make him unfit. Lord Tebbit was right on this subject. If the Tories get a new leader I may vote for them but I am not voting for Tony Blair Mark 2.
