SUNDERLAND'S: Anton Ferdinand celebrating wih Kiren Richardson

Friday July 3,2009

NIALL QUINN has said Anton Ferdinand is not for sale and believes he can fulfil his England ambitions at Sunderland.

West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola is a big admirer of Ferdinand, 24, who left Upton Park for Wearside for £8million almost 12 months ago.

But Sunderland chairman Quinn, backed by owner Ellis Short, said new manager Steve Bruce is under no pressure to sell. “People have been making enquiries about our players but we’re not going to drastically overhaul the squad,” said Quinn. “There’s some fabulous talent here.

“When Anton Ferdinand matures, he has the opportunity to become an international footballer for England and he can have a brilliant career.”

Bruce is ready to spend the £40m summer war chest handed to him by ambitious Short.
