Portsmouth midfield star Sulley Muntari is poised to join Inter Milan for £12million within the next 48 hours.

The sale of Muntari to the side managed by former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, will enable Harry Redknapp to move for England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The Pompey manager  has long been an admirer of the Chelsea player, but knew he had to sell first to finance any deal. Now he will reluctantly let Muntari leave Fratton Park, just a year after the Ghanaian’s £7m arrival from Udinese.

But Pompey will fly out to Nigeria today, for their prestige friendly against Manchester United on Sunday, with uncertainty surrounding two more of their midfielders.

Redknapp wants to strengthen his defence before the season starts and despite the pending departure of Muntari, he still needs more cash.

That could lead to both Sean Davis and Pedro Mendes leaving Fratton Park. Redknapp is prepared to sell Davis for about £2m, while Mendes is interesting Rangers.

The pair arrived at Pompey along with Noe Pamarot from Spurs in a £7m package deal in January 2006.

But both struggled for regular first-team football last season, even though Mendes forced his way into the team that beat Cardiff in the FA Cup final.

Davis was overlooked for Wembley and was a notable absentee when the team paraded through the streets of Portsmouth with the trophy the following day.

Redknapp said: “Davis is a good player who can hold his own in the Premier League and I am surprised no one has come in for him.”

Pompey, however, are ready to offer a contract to Gambian teenager Omar ‘OJ’ Krumah, who has impressed during a fortnight’s trial.

Redknapp said: “OJ is only 18 and I think that he’s a real prospect.

I would like to keep him here.”
