SCOLARI: Hitting back

Friday July 25,2008

By Tony Banks in Macau

LUIZ FELIPE SCOLARI last night finally snapped at the constant comparisons with Jose Mourinho– declaring he will be his own man at Chelsea and do things his way.

Brazilian Scolari has come under attack this week from rival Sir Alex Ferguson, who jibed that he would have trouble following in the footsteps of back-to-back title winner Mourinho.

But Scolari, 59, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 2002, has already become fed up with the comparisons with Chelsea’s most successful manager, and last night he fired back: “My name is Luiz Felipe Scolari, not Jose Mourinho.

“I have my own personality and I follow my way, not another way. I don’t know whether Mourinho said he’d win this or that, but if he did I say things differently.

“I say what any coach in the world would say – that we need to win. My way, my style at Chelsea will be the same as in my way in my life, in all the clubs I have managed and the national teams.

Chelsea’s move to bring Brazilian striker Robinho to Stamford Bridge moved a step closer last night, as the 24-year-old rejected a new contract at Real Madrid. The Spanish side have rejected a £23million opening bid from Chelsea.
