UP TO 100,000 factory jobs will be lost unless more is done to tackle Britain’s energy crisis, MPs will warn this week.

The stark message will add misery to families already struggling to keep up with the high cost of living, as the credit crunch risks becoming a full-blown recession.

The Business and Enterprise select committee’s report, due to be published tomorrow, is expected to say that high energy prices may “affect the competitiveness of the UK and put thousands of jobs in manufacturing at risk”.

It comes as millions of consumers face massive winter fuel bills after power giant EDF raised prices by up to 22 per cent – forcing customers to find, on average, an extra £200 a year.

Stupid all most of our utilities are now owned by other European country's and it is not in their interests to play fair,and will not be happy untill it see's us brits living in squalor so don't say you have not been warned

... Companies in the EEC, get the connection? they can charge us what they like, destroy our Country, then move in for the kill, we will be importing more than we can export. They have all ready started by British Airways going into 'partnership' with Alitalia, next Lufthansa, KLM, etc etc until there is a European Airways, out go the competition and they can charge what they like. This is just the start.

2. Oil/energy companies are amongst the most inefficient in the world because they can afford to be: The moment they cannot afford to be they increase their prices - win win for them - lose lose for the rest of us.

Put all gas and electric meters outside houses and prosecute those who try and interfere with them. We innocents are paying for the crooks.

I digress slightly but the same applies to vehicle excise duty.
