The show first launched in 1985 and has long been more popular in the UK than Australia.

Fears grew that the Ramsay Street saga, which launched the careers of Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, could be axed altogether.

The show, which has been airing for 37 years, will no longer air after August.

Channel 5 will instead invest in “original UK drama”.

To spare the show, thousands of fans have signed online petitions and a Save Neighbours bid trend has begun on Twitter.

Filming for the show will continue until June 10, as stated in an Fremantle email.
