The new series explores the "stresses of mental health for today’s teens created by the omnipresence of technology and social media, whilst they are still searching for their own identity, exploring sexuality, and experimenting with relationships, drink, drugs and sex".

ITV added: "Rooted in truthful observations about life as it actually is for young people, Tell Me Everything is a celebration of adolescence, without shying away from the difficult subjects facing teens as they grow up in the 2020s."

The series follows Jonny Murphy, who has not had an easy time growing up.

He is loved by his friends and family but finds it hard to be honest with them about his mental health.

When faced with a tragedy, he is forced to decide whether he can learn how to live.

The series will be made up of six episodes, with all episodes being made available on ITVX on December 8.

Each episode will introduce Jonny's friends, including Louis (Spike Fearn) and Neve (Lauryn Ajufo), who are battling their own emotional struggles.

They are suspicious when a new character, Mei (Callina Liang), comes into Jonny's life.

Although Mei seems to understand and connect with Jonny, she appears to be a dangerous influence on him.

As part of a Q&A for the new series, creator Mark O’Sullivan was asked how much of the series was based on his teenage years.

He said: "Quite a bit, Jonny is sort of a much cooler version of teenage me.

"I was just quite odd as a teenager, so I'm sort of the starting point for Jonny in this series.

"Jonny sort of goes through some of the stuff that I went through."

Jonny star Eden said it was "terrifying" knowing this would be his first TV role.

He said: "Everything was very new to me coming into this and it was pressurising at times.

"But everyone was so accommodating and informative, and I think it gave such a nice environment."

The stars went on to say how the exciting thing about the series is everyone in the audience can see themselves in one of the characters.

Viewers will meet Zia (Carla Woodcock), Regan (Tessa Lucille) and many other relatable teens along the way.

The series has been described as being comparable to E4's Skins, which ran for seven seasons.

Eden said he was "very proud" of the work he and his co-stars had created for the six-part series.
