EastEnders star shares her reaction after being told of Denise Fox affair

EastEnders actress Diane Parish confessed when stars on the show have their doubts on storylines they need to trust the vision producers have.

Eastenders' Denise Fox on affair storyline

Over the past few weeks, EastEnders viewers have watched Denise Fox (played by Diane Parish) have an affair with toy boy Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara). However, when actress Diane Parish appeared on This Morning to discuss the shocking rendezvous, she revealed she wasn’t too pleased with her character’s betrayal.

After months of being unhappy in her marriage to Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), Denise decided to allow the temptation to take over and get romantically involved with Ravi.

Although recently he’s set his sights on her daughter Chelsea (Zaraah Abrahams) when she shut down his further advances.

Threatening to expose what’s happened between them, Ravi told Denise unless she manages to find out what information Jack has on his criminal activity, he’ll tell her husband everything.

Appearing on Thursday’s instalment of This Morning, actress Diane Parish spoke about her first thoughts after learning about her character's betrayal.

Alison Hammond asked the 53-year-old to explain a little bit about what is going on between Denise and Ravi.

The soap star replied: “Well, Denise I think, for a while with Jack, she’s been in that sort of marriage where he’s been taking her for granted.

“She’s sort of slotted in, here to look after the children and just not being noticed, every woman wants to be noticed and paid attention to.”

“She wanted attention and validation and I think the straw that broke the camel's back was when he said, ‘They’re not your kids’ and she thinks, ‘After all I’ve done for you and them kids’.

“I think that sort of broke it for her and then Ravi’s paying her this attention and making her feel seen and visible.

“They actually mirror each other in that need as well, I think Ravi is one of those people who need to be seen. He's quite invisible in the set-up in his family and Denise is the same.”

Dermot questioned how big storylines happen in the soap and asked whether or not producers pull them aside to warn them something is coming in their direction.

Diane replied: “They do, the boss will bring you upstairs and you’re either in trouble thinking, ‘Oh what have I done?’ or it’s about a storyline.

“They bring you up and they’ll say, this is coming up. When they did this Ravi thing, Chris Clenshaw, he is brilliant. He’s brought this show right up there at the moment I think.

“He said to me, ‘Right, Denise is going to have an affair’ and I said, ‘What do you mean I’m going to have an affair? I’m really happy!’”

The soap star told Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary when she was in the room with Chris, there was a board which had all of the character’s photos on.

She continued: “I thought out of all the people he’s going to pick, I thought it could not be this guy, but it was. Because he's so young and beautiful.”

Diane confessed throughout her 17 years on the BBC soap, she’s learnt to never doubt the producer's way of thinking.

She said: “When I was told that I was going to have a one night stand with Phil Mitchel and then have his baby, you go, ‘What, what?!’

“Then, if you go with it and you trust it, it works out and you think wow they know where it’s going, you’ve got to trust the process’.”

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One
