fans can expect things to take a devastating turn within the next few months as a much-loved character is killed off.

Behind-the-scenes snaps obtained by the Daily Mirror show that preparation is underway for Lola Pearce's (played by Danielle Harold) funeral.

The scenes showed a coffin in a hearse with a flower arrangement that spells “Lola”.

The pictures also include paragraphs from Kat Slater and Karen Taylor.

One, written in blue ink and signed “Bobby x”, reads: “Life can be so cruel, so heartbreaking”.

Lola Pearce will tragically die in upcoming scenes after battling a brain tumour.

It was confirmed by the BBC last year that Danielle would be leaving the show, resulting in her character’s devastating diagnosis.

In the BBC soap, Lola learned that her tumour was inoperable and she was told she had just months to live.

Actress Danielle was spotted filming scenes alongside Jamie Borthwick, who plays her on-screen husband Jay Brown.

She was in a wheelchair in the scenes, suggesting that Lola’s health will be seen to deteriorate quickly.

With both characters keen to make memories for daughter Lexi (Isabella Brown), Lola has begun getting her affairs in order.

Among other things, she recently asked if Jay would adopt Lexi, who is Ben Mitchell’s (Max Bowden) daughter.

The biggest giveaway to the character’s death is the white and pink flowers that spell out “Lola”.

There is a second arrangement on the opposite side that possibly spells out the same name or something linked to daughter Lexi, but it isn't in view.

A series of funeral cars follow the hearse, while no cast members were snapped in any of the images.

It is thought that her final scenes will air within weeks, although no date for her exit has been confirmed yet.

Actress Danielle took to Instagram last month to share her tribute to her character and discuss the importance of the storyline.

She said: “Lola’s story has been a very hard one to tell and one that means so much to me and sadly affects so many people. (sic)
