Scotland suffered one of their most humiliating defeats in recent history against Israel this week, and now they face the huge task of overcoming Portugal at Hampden Park.

Manager Alex McLeish has been plunged into huge pressure following the 2-1 defeat in Haifa and his problems are mounting.

Four first-team stars have dropped out of the squad to face Portugal including Kieran Tierney who scored the crucial own goal to consign Scotland to defeat.

John Souttar – who was sent off against Israel – has also withdrawn along with Robert Snodgrass and Charlie Mulgrew.

Ryan Christie, Michael Devlin and Gary Mackay-Steven have been called up as replacements and could feature if McLeish radically mixes up his team.

He is expected to ditch the 3-5-2 formation against Portugal, with a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 expected.

Young striker Oli McBurnie came off the bench and could be tested up front.

Scott McKenna is likely to feature alongside Jack Hendry in defence, with Liverpool ace Andrew Robertson at left-back in place of Tierney.

Graeme Shinnie could come into the team as well as Stuart Armstrong and Callum McGregor.

All of McLeish's outfield stars who were benched on Thursday night could start, with Allan McGregor between the sticks.

Predicted Scotland team vs Portugal

(4-5-1) McGregor; Shinnie, McKenna, Hendry, Robertson; Forrest, McGinn, McDonald, Armstrong, McGregor; McBurnie.
