Liverpool proved ONE thing against Man Utd which Bayern Munich should fear - Matthaus
LIVERPOOL are ‘clear favourites’ going into their Champions League tie against Bayern Munich and their win over Manchester United proved the strength and depth of their squad.
Those are the thoughts of former Bayern star Lothar Matthaus.
Liverpool were pitted against the German giants when the last-16 draw was made on Monday.
The Reds - who booked their place in the knockout stages of the competition last week when Salah hit the winner against Napoli in a 1-0 victory in their final group game - are flying high.
The Merseysiders leapfrogged Manchester City and went back to the top of the Premier League when they recorded a 3-1 victory over Manchester United with Xherdan Shaqiri coming off the bench to score twice in seven second-half minutes.
Klopp will be eager to get revenge over Bayern as he tasted defeat against them in the Champions League final at Wembley in 2013.
Matthaus is looking forward to the key duels which will take place all over the field.
But he reckons that the Reds showed in their win over United that they have real quality on and off the pitch and are favourites against Bayern, who have been well below par this term and lie third in the Bundesliga.
“Liverpool have performed far better this season. They are a team of high quality who came so close last season and know what they have to do,” Matthaus wrote in his column for The Sun.
