After a dismal campaign to date, Mourinho was given his marching orders on Tuesday.
United won’t appoint a new permanent manager until the end of the season, but Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is widely fancied to take over.
Following a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool last weekend, United will be desperate to bounce back against Cardiff.

And Lawrenson thinks Solskjaer has a big job on his hands, but expects United to leave the Welsh capital with all three points.
“Cardiff have won four of their past five home games but this is going to be a very tough game for them,” Lawrenson said.
“Whenever a new manager comes into any club, all the players are instantly far more focused.
“I can guarantee you that in United's training sessions this week, everything will have been really sharp and I would expect them to translate that into a convincing performance.
