The Norwegian got off to the best possible start in the Red Devils hot-seat after he won 5-1 at his former side Cardiff.
United put on a dazzling display as they attacked with freedom, scoring five goals for the first time since Alex Ferguson’s last game in charge in 2013.
"It could happen, I looked at it today and thought, that's Man Utd playing out here and that's a huge start, a massive start,” he told BT Sport.
"I still think the defence is pretty weak, central defence. I thought [Victor] Lindelof looks slow and weak physically.
"I'm not convinced that the centre half pairing is a pairing that's going to go and challenge for the league.
"All of a sudden instead of having 20 problems they only have five.”

The former England striker then made a big statement by suggesting Solskjaer could land the job permanently.
"If he [Solskjaer] continues this, he's got a right chance” he concluded.
Danny Gabbidon was appointed interim boss at Cardiff after Solskjaer left the club in 2014.
He believes consistent results will give the new boss the best chance of extending his stay beyond May.
