However, a deal for Suarez appears to be in some doubt or at least on hold as Ernesto Valverde included him in his squad.
Last night, Valverde named the out-of-favour midfielder in the matchday squad for the second-leg of Barcelona’s Copa del Rey last-16 tie with Levante, which takes places this evening.
His decision to include Suarez in the squad seemingly suggests he wants to retain the 25-year-old’s services.
Should Arsenal reach an agreement for Suarez, it will only be a loan deal as the club are currently strapped for cash.
“I don’t know his [Suarez] situation now,” Emery said last week. “We can only sign players later on.
“I know the club is working on possibilities of which players can help us with big performances like we need now.”

Suarez has found first-team football hard to come by this season, making a paltry six appearances for the La Liga champions.
The Spain international’s lack of game time prompted Emery to inquire about acquiring his services this month.
