The Blues star was furious with referee Kevin Friend and went too far out of his technical area to remonstrate.
Sarri had been in conflict with officials throughout the match at Stamford Bridge in which Chelsea dropped crucial points.
An FA statement read: “Maurizio Sarri has been charged with misconduct in relation to his behaviour in the 94th minute of Monday’s [22/04/2019] Premier League fixture between Chelsea and Burnley.
“The Chelsea manager has until 18:00 on Friday [26/04/2019] to provide a response.”
Chelsea did lodge a complaint with Friend after the match saying he received constant abuse from the Burnley bench and was branded a 's*** Italian'.
Sarri has until 6pm on Friday to respond to the charges.
The Blues could face a possible fine over the incident in the Premier League encounter.
After the match Gianfranco Zola took the press conference for Chelsea and revealed Sarri was upset.

Chelsea: Willian MUST forget Barcelona transfer says Sarri
“Maurizio’s very frustrated, he’s been sent off and I think he’s been offended as well,” he said.
“He’s frustrated at the game, frustrated at being sent off, and the other thing. I think he’s been told something from their bench but don’t ask me exactly what.
“I don’t want to go down that line but we’ll see what we can do about that.
“I think there will be a follow-up on that.Maurizio felt very unhappy. We understand it’s a football game. You say words because of the adrenaline but he wasn’t particularly happy.”
