Man Utd need to 'wake up' and sack Solskjaer says expert
Manchester United must forget about sentimentality and sack manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, claims former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy. United currently find themselves ninth in the Premier League table, eight points behind the top four. Cundy believes United must follow Tottenham’s lead and sack their manager, despite the affinity he has with the club and its fans.
Mauricio Pochettino had spent five years at Tottenham and led them to the Champions League final in June.
Solskjaer, meanwhile, spent a large part of his playing career at United and will always be remembered for scoring the winner in the 1999 Champions League final to seal the treble for the Red Devils.
But Cundy says that must not come into United’s thinking and he has urged them to axe the Norwegian now - just as Tottenham got rid of Pochettino.
“The problem is, they made the decision to give him the job and once you’ve done that, you’re then committed,” Cundy said on talkSPORT.

“You’ve then absolutely thrown all your eggs in that basket.
“At the end of last season I said they should sack him and move forward, they made the mistake, admit the mistake and move forward [but] they’ve now sleepwalked into this and they keep going.
“They’re sleepwalking into mid-table mediocrity, they’re already there.
“When is someone at Old Trafford going to wake up? There is something fundamentally wrong with that football club.

“Whatever you think of [Tottenham chairman] Daniel Levy, to sack [Pochettino] at that time was a ballsy move and you’ve got to say well done.
“There was no sentiment, no matter what Poch has done for that football club, no matter where they were when he picked them up, no matter what he did for them last season, within six months of taking them to the Champions League final it was ‘thank you very much, we don’t need you anymore’.
“That’s how you run a football club. There’s got to be no sentiment.
“Forget who [Solskjaer] is – get rid. Make the decision, let’s move forward.”
