Man City: Pep Guardiola reacts to Champions League loss to Lyon
Manchester City were guilty of "terrible" defending against Lyon, according to former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand. City were favourites heading into the Champions League quarter-final clash in Lisbon but it was Lyon who came out on top, with a Moussa Dembele brace handing the Ligue 1 side a surprise 3-1 win.
Lyon took the lead midway through the first half. A long ball from Lyon left-back Fernando Marcal cut City's defence open and, despite Karl Toko Ekambi being tackled by Eric Garcia, the ball fell kindly for Maxwel Cornet who curled expertly past Ederson in goal.
Ferdinand was critical of the defending at half time and compared it to what was on show in Bayern Munich's 8-2 demolition of Barcelona on Friday.
"I thought the defending was terrible," Ferdinand said on BT Sport.
"Yesterday we spoke about Bayern and Barcelona playing with high lines, it seems like they wanted to match them and see if they can do it any worse today.

"Garcia ends up getting back and does fairly well but the finish is an exquisite finish."
Ferdinand also questioned Pep Guardiola's team selection for the match, with a host of creative players named on the bench by the Spaniard.
"Garcia said he was not committing to the club and, listen, how many times have we seen it where you've got both the Silvas, [Riyad] Mahrez, [Phil] Foden off the pitch?" Ferdinand said.
"They're creative energy, creative spark that they bring to this team, the imagination.
"Yes you've got Kevin de Bruyne on there and you've got the likes of Sterling who's going to be the man responsible mainly for getting the goals, 11 in 12 games since coming back from the restart.
"I think Pep's tinkered with his formation to accommodate the formation that Lyon play but more importantly he's left out the manipulators, the people with imagination, the people who can drag people out of position and create space."
