Thiago Silva ‘will fit’ in Premier League says pundit
Chelsea transfer target Thiago Silva will have his medical on Thursday ahead of signing for the Blues on a free transfer, according to reports. The Brazilian centre-back, 35, has left Paris Saint-Germain following the end of his contract. PSG boss Thomas Tuchel wanted Silva to stay at the Parc des Princes but sporting director Leonardo disagreed and felt it was right to let him leave.
"We've talked about the centre-half position - all the other guys are out there chasing the top players as well," Burley told ESPN FC.
"So you've got to get in quick, make a decision, make an offer, sort that position out and then worry about it in 12-18 months time about filling it again.
"You can't sit on your backside and watch [Thiago Silva] go somewhere else and then start looking about for other centre-halves of that quality and experience because there aren't many out there, there's just not.
"On top of that you've got the [Ben] Chilwell potential signing and they're going to need to find a goalkeeper.
"I cannot see for a moment that they're going to go into next year with Kepa or Willy Caballero as their No 1 goalkeeper at the club. So they're going to have to find a goalkeeper as well.
"So [the Silva deal] makes sense to me. It's not ideal signing a 36-year-old but it's a fit 36-year-old who's got good character, great experience, and by the way, can still play."

Silva would be Chelsea's third summer signing following the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
But the Blues will not be finished there, with deals for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz and Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell also close.
Havertz would cost up to £90million and England star Chilwell an initial £50m.
