GARY Lineker has ramped up the TV World Cup war by casting doubt over his rival ITV anchor Adrian Chiles’ ability to cope with presenting live football.
Gary Lineker has cast doubt over Adrian Chiles’ ability to cope with presenting live football
Chiles left the BBC this week to pursue his career across the divide after seeing his position as presenter on the One Show chipped away by Chris Evans.
Match of the Day 2 presenter Chiles was thanked publicly at the BBC World Cup coverage launch. He is to be replaced on that show by Colin Murray and was generally lauded by his former colleagues. But Lineker said: “I don’t know how he will do. It will be interesting.
“He did fine on MOTD2. They wanted something different from MOTD on Saturday night and I thought he did it well. Live football is obviously very different.
“I wish him well although I won’t see how he does – I will be in South Africa.”
Lineker also denied reports that his wife Danielle would be covering the World Cup for GMTV. He said: “She’s in talks about various things, but it’s not as if she is going to be Adrian Chiles’ number two.” Probably for the best in the circumstances.
