Tottenham boss Antonio Conte thinks he has uncovered his very own Bernardo Silva after Bryan Gil starred in Spurs’ Premier League victory over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night. The Lilywhites produced a scintillating second half performance at Selhurst Park to run out 4-0 winners, with Gil impressing during his 77 minutes on the pitch.

“[The performance] was important” Conte said after the match. “We are talking about a player born to play football. He understands football so quickly, he's so clever. This league is so difficult. Quality, you have to be fast and have endurance.

“He has that and also you have to be strong physically. Gil since last season has improved on that aspect. I compared him to Bernardo Silva of Manchester City because in my opinion they are really similar. He has to continue to work on the physical aspect because he has great quality.”

Tottenham went ahead in the early stages of the second half in south London as Harry Kane headed home Ivan Perisic’s inviting cross. And Kane doubled the visitors’ advantage moments later when he lashed the ball beyond Vicente Guaita and into the bottom corner of the net.

Matt Doherty got in on the action midway through the second half as he fired in following good work from Son Heung-min. And Son put the icing on the cake with 18 minutes remaining as he thumped home from the edge of the box.

Tottenham’s victory means they are now only two points behind fourth-place Manchester United. But the Lilywhites have a tough run of matches coming up and will host Arsenal in their next Premier League encounter, before clashes with Fulham and Manchester City.

“It’s always important to get three points and have this type of win,” Conte added. “This brings confidence. The game against Aston Villa, after a good first half, we conceded the goal and our confidence dropped a lot and to recover in two or three days after a defeat at home where we are expected to win, and to go again, was not easy. The response was really good. My players showed great character, great personality.

“We know we face Arsenal and Man City, the two title contenders for this Premier League. To arrive with a good win is really important. I hope to recover players who are injured. We are talking about important players. I hope in these 10 days to have all the players available: Richarlison, [Dejan] Kulu[sevski], [Rodrigo] Bentancur.”
