Ange Postecoglou defends decision to make changes as Tottenham exit Carabao Cup
The European teams have now entered this year's Carabao Cup as the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal have discovered their opponents following the third-round draw. There are just 32 teams remaining but plenty of the Premier League giants have been handed difficult ties as they look to usurp Erik ten Hag's side, who won the cup last year at Wembley against Newcastle.
United will begin their defence at home to Crystal Palace, having been drawn against Premier League opposition - as were Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle and Brighton - with some of those teams set to face each other.
Mikel Arteta's side will face a tricky trip to Brentford in their first match of the competition, having faced some difficult encounters in west London since Thomas Frank's side were promoted to the top division.
Meanwhile, Manchester City will travel to St James' Park to face Newcastle in possibly the round's most mouthwatering tie. Pep Guardiola has been a serial winner of this competition but his side have been handed a tough start.
Chelsea will meet foes Brighton at Stamford Bridge, having pinched Moises Caicedo from the Seagulls in the latest of their acquisitions, while the only other all-Premier League tie sees Everton travel to Aston Villa - with matches taking place the week commencing September 25.

There are five matches taking place ahead of the draw, including Everton’s trip to Doncaster which has seen the Toffees claim a late 2-1 victory.
Blackburn have trounced League Two side Harrowgate 8-0 away from home, firmly booking their place in the next round.
Chelsea went down early at home to Wimbledon, before a Noni Madueke penalty and Enzo Fernandez goal spared the Blues’ blushes.
A late Burnley goal from Zeki Amdouani saw Vincent Kompany’s side into the third round, winning away to Nottingham Forest, while Lincoln defeated Sheffield United on penalties.
Tonight’s draw will take place following Doncaster’s home tie with Everton and is expected to start at 10.15pm, though that could be delayed depending on what time the match finishes.
