Hugo Lloris was concussed during a collison with Everton's Romelu Lukaku last weekend, and was rested for the Europa League clash.
"The medical team thought the game had come round a bit too soon for Lloris," Villas-Boas said.
"Clinically and mentally the signs suggested he was fine.

Villas-Boas also claimed Tim Krul 'made the difference' between the two sides.
