We must be careful with Daniel Sturridge warns Liverpool assistant Colin Pascoe
LIVERPOOL are still prepared to nurse striker Daniel Sturridge back to full fitness as they bid to avoid a repeat of the injury problems that have dogged the England international.
Sturridge has made just eight league appearances this season
Sturridge started his first Premier League game since August as Liverpool beat Tottenham 3-2 on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old, who has struggled to overcome persistent muscle problems, played for 74 minutes before being replaced by match-winner Mario Balotelli.
And Liverpool’s assistant manager Colin Pascoe confirmed any more action would have been a risk ahead of the Reds’ FA Cup fifth-round tie at Crystal Palace tomorrow.
Liverpool Brendan Rodgers presser
After the last five months and things that have gone on, we just have to be careful with Daniel at the moment
Colin Pascoe
Pascoe said: “He is desperate to play. He didn’t want to come off but we know 60-75 minutes was his maximum that we were going to push him because anything more than that you are over-stepping it and he could pull a muscle.
“After the last five months and things that have gone on, we just have to be careful with Daniel at the moment.”
“We don’t want to break him but he is not far off 90 minutes now.”
