Romero is said to have been offered a chance to replace Marcelo Barovero at River Plate, but he has rejected a move, according to Argentine publication Nexogol.
River Plate have identified the 29-year-old as Barovero’s replacement with the veteran shot-stopper set to leave at the end of the season.
But Romero isn’t interested in a move, insisting he wants to remain in Europe - and that if he does return to his native country, it would only be to play for boyhood side Racing Club.
