Louis van Gaal: Philippe Coutinho's goal killed Manchester United
LOUIS VAN GAAL believes Philippe Coutinho's goal for Liverpool just before half-time was the turning point as Manchester United crashed out of the Europa League.
United clawed their way back into the match thanks to a Anthony Martial penalty.
But with seconds to go before the half time whistle, Coutinho dribbled past Guillermo Varela and finishly deftly past the outstanding David de Gea.
It left United neeed three second half goals and they rarely threaten to break through Liverpool's resolute defence.
And Van Gaal feels Liverpool's goal knocked the stuffing out of his team.
He told BT Sport: "It is very disappointing. We could have the chance, that is the feeling in the dressing room. We have created enough chances to win and we know that when you attack in this way that Liverpool has counter chances.
"The way that we conceded that goal, at half-time they were all so disappointed. If we don't concede that goal I think it was possible.
