Arsenal have set their sights on Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, according to reports in Italy.
Newspaper Gazzetta dello Sportclaim the Gunners have turned their attention to the Colombia international after missing out on Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez.
The Gunners have a good working relationship with Real following the £42.5million deal for Mesut Ozil in 2013.
However, Gazzetta say a deal for Rodriguez is not a foregone conclusion due to the north London club’s poor record in the transfer market this summer.
Arsenal target Islam Slimani has reportedly handed in a transfer request at Sporting Lisbon.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogoclaim the Algeria international spoke with manager Jorge Jesus about leaving the club following training on Monday morning.
The report says Sporting turned down the 28-year-old’s transfer request despite him being desperate to leave the club.
Premier League trio Leicester, Tottenham and Arsenal are all said to be interested in signing the 28-year-old.

Gabriel Paulista has told Arsenal fans his injury is not as bad as first feared.
The Brazilian centre-back hurt his ankle following an awkward fall in Sunday's 3-2 pre-season win over Manchester City.
However, the 25-year-old has reassured supporters on Instagram he should be fine for the Gunners’ Premier League opener against Leicester on August 20.
“Today I feel much better, it’s not a big problem. Thanks my fans,” he wrote.
