Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Victor Lindelof and hope to have him signed up in the next few days.
Lindelof is Jose Mourinho’s top target for January and the Portuguese has given the go ahead for a £38million deal.
Benfica chiefs have been to the UK to thrash out a deal and United expect to have an agreement in place imminently to allow Lindelof to sign when the transfer window reopens at the start of January.
Lindelof, 22, is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes and was pictured signing a Manchester United shirt earlier this week.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a big fan of the defender, he said: “I think Victor is doing great things, he is playing good for Benfica, he gets a lot of responsibility for the national team now, he is growing.
“Is he good enough for United? I think he’s good enough for the big clubs out there. It’s up to him what he wants. Whatever he chooses will be good for him.
“I know he is hot on the market so let him make the right choice, what fits him good.”
Lindelof is set to battle Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling for a place in the team with Eric Bailly due to miss a chunk of January at the Africa Cup of Nations.
But the Sweden international is expected to partner Bailly at the heart of Mourinho’s defence long-term.

Jose Mourinho is closing in on the £38million signing of Victor Lindelof
The Ligue 1 side are desperate to add more quality this winter after a difficult first half of the season.
They have already wrapped up the signing of Julian Draxler but want to add Liverpool ace Coutinho to their squad as they look to overhaul Nice and Monaco at the top of the league.
PSG currently sit third and are five points behind Mario Balotelli’s Nice.
They face Barcelona in the round of 16 in the Champions League and see Coutinho as the man to help them challenge the Spanish giants.
