Tottenham copied their warmup technique from Chelsea, claims Cole
During recent televised games, Tottenham’s pre-match routine has sparked conversation amongst the pundits.
Tonight was no different as Mauricio Pochettino’s side prepared for the visit of West Ham to Wembley.
The Tottenham boss sets up an attack vs defence scenario with some of his players using the whole width of the pitch, as the forwards practice their crossing and finishing and defenders work on their clearing and interceptions just minutes before the real action starts.
Cole believes it helps the players get used to their surroundings ahead of the match.
He also believes it gets into the mind of the opposition, who look to pick up any little tactic they can before the match.
They’re very useful. We used to do them at Chelsea
Joe Cole on Tottenham's pre-match warmup methods
“They’re very useful,” Cole said while working as a pundit on Sky Sports.
“We used to do them at Chelsea.
“I think what it does is it puts you in the mindset and distances of where you’re actually going to be on the pitch.
“Sometimes we used to do that because you know the other manager is watching and you used to change it around, some would play in different positions.

Chelsea used Tottenham's unusual pre-match warmup when Cole was a Blues player
“What it does it gets you in the right positions, gets you in the habit of occupying the box and getting in at the far post if you’re a winger for instance.
“I think Tottenham are very good naturally at that with Son, Dele Alli, Eriksen.
“They’ve all got goals in them.”
It certainly worked for Cole when he was at Chelsea, as he won three Premier League titles in his seven years at Stamford Bridge.
