Man City captain Vincent Kompany is smiling at the talents of Liverpool ace Mo Salah
And while Belgian Kompany believes De Bruyne should have won those, he was quick to praise Salah who became the first African to earn the writers’ gong.
“How can you take away from Mo Salah what he’s achieved?” Kompany told CNN.
“He’s an African player, which I’m happy about as well.
“It’s going to have a big impact in his country and for the continent as well.”
Kompany has made 16 Premier League appearances this season as his side waltzed to the Premier League title.
That is largely down to De Bruyne’s creativity with the midfielder adding 15 assists to his eight Premier League goals.
And Kompany praised the Belgian’s talent, adding: "The way he sees and understands the game is beyond what you can see in terms of ability from any player and that's why it's difficult to categorize Kevin's performance.
"If you take the full package, the passes, the amount of actions he's made that were so clever and different from what anyone else would've done you would put him on another level."
