However, the Chile star is not the only midfielder on Mourinho’s radar.
The 55-year-old also have an interest in Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who has shone in Serie A this season.
And, speaking early today, former Italy star Marco Materazzi suggested a deal for the midfielder was ‘done’.
"In my opinion, he has already been sold for a few months to a team, Manchester United, which is waiting to sell a big [name], Pogba, to formalise the Serbian [’s arrival]," Materazzi told French outlet RMC Sport, when asked if there is a risk Milinkovic-Savic will leave Lazio.
"Lazio is the team that worked better with the human material that was available: hats off to [Igli] Tare and [Simone] Inzaghi."
