ROMA will reportedly try to rebuff Liverpool’s attempts to sign Alisson until after the World Cup.

have been keeping tabs on Alisson as they seek to recruit a world-class goalkeeper to provide a title challenge to Manchester City next season.

The need to acquire a shot-stopper was highlighted in the wake of the Reds’ 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday when Loris Karius made two howlers.

Karius is now being linked with a move away from Anfield, while Simon Mignolet’s future is uncertain.

Alisson, recent reports have suggested, could cost upwards of £80million.

And now according to The Guardian, Roma will do all they can to fend off bids for the 25-year-old until after the World Cup.

I actually feel sorry for him, I really do

Liverpool are yet to formally make an approach, but they have been keeping tabs on the player who is contracted with Roma until 2021.

The Reds are expected to make contact over the summer, although The Guardian indicate Real Madrid will step up their interest.

Meanwhile, Danny Murphy thinks Karius won’t play for Liverpool again.

“I actually feel sorry for him, I really do,” he said.

“Nobody goes into a game wanting to make mistakes. Unfortunately, I don’t think he’ll play in a Liverpool shirt again.

“I think it’s impossible for him.

“I think the magnitude of the mistakes, the enormity of the game, the supporters will struggle with him being in goal for them and the continual ribbing he will get week in week out where ever he goes, that’s going to be huge pressure for him and I just can’t see him playing again.

“That’s not being dramatic, that’s just the reality of the situation.

“I can’t remember too many games of such importance where the keeper has had such a bad influence.”
