But Mariner believes Morata will be ahead of him in the pecking order at Chelsea and reckons a move to Marseille, where he has been linked, would be good for the 31-year-old World Cup winner.
“Well Sarri’s come in, we know that he likes to play 4-3-3,” Mariner told ESPN FC.
“In his younger days I would have said yes Giroud would sort of fit.
“But now it looks like Morata may stay, I always put Morata in front of Giroud because I think Morata got a bit of a rough deal last year. He had a back injury, he wasn’t 100 per cent fit.

“So maybe he’s (Sarri) seen something in pre-season that he likes about Morata.
“There’s no doubt that the front three, if it’s Willian or (Eden) Hazard or Morata, that’s very, very dangerous.
“So I think it (Marseille) might be a good move for the lad (Giroud). So it seems as though it’s all coming together."
