The have announced their new-look line-up following the departure of Sue Barker. The presenter has insisted that she ‘didn’t want to give up’ her role at the competition, though a fresh set of faces are now set to appear on our television screens - with Boris Becker another notable absence.

Wimbledon is set to kick off on Monday July 13, with the finale coming on Sunday July 16. Clare Balding has been named as the lead presenter for the shows, hosting live TV coverage from across the competition.

Journalist Isa Guha will now be hosting the show from 11am each morning, welcoming viewers and preparing for the day’s action before Balding’s arrival in the afternoon.

The BBC have also announced a whole host of other guests that are expected to feature throughout coverage from SW19, including former Wimbledon winners Billie Jean King, Pat Cash and John McEnroe – and the latter will be joined by Tim Henman on BBC Radio 5 Live for coverage.

Highlights from the coverage will then be shown at 9pm each night, with Qasa Alom taking viewers through all of the action. Speaking about the line-up, Director of BBC Sport Barbara Slater explained: “There is something magical about Wimbledon. With its glorious traditions and unique history, it has a special place in the hearts of all sports fans.

“We love bringing The Championships to audiences across the UK every year and our comprehensive cross-platform coverage allows fans to keep up to date with all the thrilling action and ensures this event is there to be enjoyed by the widest possible audience.”

Alom is equally as excited about his new role given that he has previously been an investigative journalist that has looked into the world of YouTube and delved deeper into the world of climate change. Tweeting after the announcement, Alom wrote: “I’ll be presenting ‘Today at Wimbledon’ on BBC Two/iPlayer this year. I’m really excited to make some brilliant TV, speak to experts about the day’s action & have a bit of fun with it! I’ve been watching the coverage since I was a child. Now, I can’t wait to be part of it.

“Fair to say today is a good day…I’m a bit obsessed with the sport - I remember commentating on my own backyard matches as a child when I used to try and serve like Goran. From that to now - yeah I’m gonna do my best to do this programme justice.”
