An unlikely city is the cheapest in the world for a night out, costing just over £7.

Tour Operator Ski Vertigo calculated the best nightlife in the world, highlighting cities where nightlife thrives for astonishingly cheap.

The research analysed the average cost of three beers, a McDonald’s meal and a 5km taxi across over 180 cities.

Guangzhou in China came out on top at all of this coming to just £7.35, with beers costing an average of £0.97 per pint.

Ski Vertigo said of the city in southeast China: “Guangzhou is not just cost-effective; it's a city that never sleeps.

“From bustling street markets offering tantalizing Cantonese street food to lively bars and clubs in the Bai E Tan area, the city provides an eclectic mix of traditional and modern entertainment.

“The Pearl River night cruise is another attraction, offering stunning views of the illuminated cityscape.”

Guangzhou is full of history with sites including Shamian Island, the Mausoleum of the Nenue King and Chen Clan Ancestral Home, as well as narrow leafy streets lined with temples and mosques, dim sum eateries and shophouses.

There are also lots of modern architectural landmarks in the New Town such as the late Zaha Hadid's Opera House and the thin Canton Tower.

The city has plenty of accommodation to choose from, with hotels, holiday lets, hostels and more.

Those hoping to visit can get to Guangzhou with direct flights from London and indirect flights from Birmingham, Edinburgh and Newcastle.

Other cities with cheap nights out are Gurgaon in India (£8.14 per night), Alexandria in Egypt (£8.22), Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam (£8.66), Tunis in Tunisia (£8.98) and Jakarta in Indonesia (£9.48).

Ski Vertigo said of the list: "Each city offers more than just a cheap night out; they offer a window into the soul of their cultures, cuisines, and people.

“They show us that the best experiences don't have to come with a hefty price tag but with an open mind and a spirit of adventure.”
