Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were back on the red sofa to host Thursday's instalment of BBC Breakfast.

Naga Munchetty compliments Emmett J Scanlan on his beard

As another instalment of BBC Breakfast aired on Thursday morning, hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were joined in the studio by actor Emmett J Scanlan and it looks like Naga was full of compliments today.

The Irish-native was on the show to discuss the second series of crime-drama show Kin which airs on BBC One, but talk soon turned to his appearance.

Charlie, 61, asked: "Was the character required to have a beard," as Emmett responded: "No it wasn't. When we shot season one, it was in the height of the pandemic.

"It was in lockdown, it was a whole new world so at that point nobody was working, my hair was growing, I had a beard, it was so long, I could put it in a ponytail.

"When this job came along and this opportunity came along, which meant I could go back to Ireland, I got to see my family for about four months which I've never been able to do normally and I just said: 'Listen, any chances I can keep the man bun?' and then they didn't say anything about the beard so here we are."

At this point, Naga, 49, jumped in and gushed: "It's a very good beard," as the actor said: "Thank you very much, I didn't realise we'd be talking about my beard today," as Naga added: "You should be proud of it."

Beards were clearly on the mind as earlier on in the interview, Naga expressed: "It took me by surprise as I hadn't seen Kin.

"I hadn't seen it and because I knew you were coming on, I thought, 'I'm going to watch this'. I'm a bit wary of violent stuff," the BBC star explained.

"There are a lot of beards. I found it hard to distinguish you all. What was the beard grooming process like?"

Emmett joked: "I was the ugly one," as Naga asked: "The ugly one did you say?"

"Yeah, you're right, there are a lot of beards," the former Hollyoaks star explained to Naga and Charlie. He then discussed his character Jimmy Kinsella in the Irish crime-drama series as the hosts listened on.

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
